Sony Announces Slim Vita Model for North America

Sony announced earlier today that a slimmer model of the Playstation Vita will be coming stateside in the Spring, although a specific date is yet to be heard. A bundle including Borderlands 2 for the new Vita model will be available at its launch, which will cost $199.

Very fittingly, Sony is referring to the system as the “slim” model. The announced redesign is no stranger to other parts of the world. The Vita slim launched in Japan on October 10, and was revealed in Europe earlier this year.

Perhaps most noticeable, the Vita slim will boast a 5″ LCD screen instead of the standard Vita’s flashy OLED screen to help keep system costs down.”

Some new features and traits of the Vita slim, besides the skinnier and lighter build, include an extra hour of battery life, one gigabyte of internal memory, and a slightly brighter screen. Perhaps most noticeable, the Vita slim will boast a 5″ LCD screen instead of the standard Vita’s flashy OLED screen to help keep system costs down.

    I’m glad they decided to get rid of the OLED screen. With all the chatter about the original PS Vita screen actually looking nicer/brighter, I was curious how Sony would proceed with newer models. I’ll either pick one of these Slims up solo or get it at the same time as a PS4.
